About Amy
Playing the harp is my passion!
I was surrounded by music at a very early age — I thank my parents who played classical records for me from the beginning, and who enrolled me in my first piano lesson at seven.
Classically trained in both piano and violin, I continued these studies at Oberlin College in Ohio; I also began my own study of classical guitar, renaissance lute, and baroque recorder.
But when I first heard the Celtic harp 20 years ago, it was love at first sight.
Playing the harp is pure bliss. The music of the harp is simply ethereal and enchanting, transporting us to another world. The gorgeous tones envelope us, and can make us cry, or dance for joy.
I love sharing my passion for the harp with audiences throughout San Diego – from school programs, weddings, and holiday celebrations, to service organizations, Renaissance fairs, and arts festivals.
I also enjoy presenting concerts, and playing for gala events throughout San Diego:
Concerts – at San Diego libraries, the San Diego Museum of Art, The Scripps Green Hospital music series, and the Del Mar Fair
Gala events – hosted by the such groups as the Palomar Pomerado Health Consortium, UCSD, the San Diego Water Color Society, and the Museum of Making Music.
It is a pleasure to see the unique effect of the harp on the listener — especially small children who come right up to the harp with big smiles, impatient to “strum” the strings.
My love of the harp is captured in my debut recording, “Garden of Delights”, with musical gems from Classical to Contemporary, and Irish to Israeli.
Music, Medicine, and the Magic of the Harp is a presentation about the amazing connections between music and well-being, and the healing resonance of the harp.
A graduate of the International Harp Therapy Program, I have the honor of being a Certified Therapeutic Harp Practitioner, playing soothing music at the bedside.
